Tanning Bed Acrylic Shields Keep Your Bed Clean
Tanning bed acrylic shields are a surprisingly high-tech piece of your tanning bed. Acrylics are sturdy, but they can be damaged by the acids from sweat or by the oil from tanning oils. Tanning bed shields are one part of your bed you don't want to have to replace. In fact, with some beds, you'll need to have a new shield custom made.
These shields are unique in the fact they resist taking on heat and yet allow UV radiation to move through the shield and get to your skin. This means you can tan without sizzling after a long session. Shields are strong enough to support up to 500 pounds, but are so delicate that small nicks and scratches can affect your UV light transmission. On of the best acrylic shields is Solacryl by Spartech. Spartech guarantees their shields against yellowing, hazing, or breaking for 10,000 hours. That's 30,000 tanning sessions! But don't contact them. They work through distributors who cut, form, and install the shields.
To properly protect your shields, keep the bed functioning properly, fans working, and lights are using the correct wattage. Bad lights or overheating can damage the shield. Using cleaning solutions not designed for your tanning bed may also affect your shield's life. You should clean your tanning bed shield, front and back, at least once every three months (with higher UV lamps, once per month).
The tanning bed shield is one of the most important tanning bed supplies. To extend the life of your shield, check it regularly for cracks, bends, cloudy sections, burn marks, and scratches or chips. If you find any of these, contact the manufacturer for what you can do.
