Tanning Bed Instructions: Follow Them For Your Own Safety

Tanning bed instructions are simple to follow and can be very important. There are two categories to pay attention to in considering how to use your bed.

First is the maintenance of the bed itself. The sun lamps create a lot of heat, so even in air-conditioned units you will perspire. Every time you tan, clean the top and bottom of the bed with a soft cloth and a disinfectant spray. There are products specifically made for cleaning tanning beds. This is especially important if you share the beds with other members of the family at home or go to a tanning salon. You want the area that you lay in to be clean and germ free.

The second set of usage instructions to follow concern what you actually do before getting into the bed. Not only should you not put on anything other than lotion that is made for use in a tanning bed, but if you have residual lotion on your skin from the pool or body lotion that was recently applied, you may want to wipe down. As you perspire, it will liquefy and can damage the acrylic. Only use lotions specifically made for these types of beds, and wear goggles during each session to protect your eyes. Be careful about how long you expose your skin. This will vary depending on skin type.

Tanning beds are convenient for that year round glow, and wonderful if you'd prefer to achieve it in privacy. However, it's important for the longevity of the bed, as well as your health and well-being, that you follow some guidelines to make sure you are doing everything safely.
