Dangers of Tanning Often Ignored by Sun Worshippers
The dangers of tanning exist regardless of whether you are exposed to natural or artificial sunlight. So, tanning at the beach can be just as dangerous as an indoor tanning salon. You might be curious, however, if tanning beds are safer or more dangerous than the sun. The fact is you are exposed to harmful rays with natural sunlight or at a tanning booth, so care should be taken with both.
Of course, our bodies need an adequate amount of sun exposure on a daily basis to help produce Vitamin D and remain healthy. However, the overexposure to UV rays is what causes a tan as well as wrinkles and possibly skin cancer, which can be fatal. So, you should protect your skin at all times and reduce overexposure to the sun and/or tanning beds if at all possible.
The easiest way to protect yourself is to avoid exposure to the sun between 10 am and 2 pm because this is when the sun is the strongest, and always wear at least a 15 SPF sunscreen. By following these rules, you will be protecting your skin for years to come.
However, this does not help those who still want a tan. Fortunately, there are options now for tanning that does not involved UV rays. There are spray on tans, lotions, creams, and other options that can create a natural looking tan with none of the harmful side effects. So, the next time you consider soaking up some rays or visiting tanning beds, contemplate one of the safer tanning options and keep your skin healthy longer.
