Spray Tanning Booths Jump-Start Great Tans
If your darker friends call you Paleface, and you feel like you're actually glowing when the lights turn out, you may want to try a spray-on tan from one of your local spray tanning booths. These sunless tans use an airbrush system to coat your skin with a gentle dye that is often impregnated with a chemical that causes your melanin-producing skin cells to darken.
The process these booths use is simple and fast, and you can tan nude or with a bathing suit. You can either cover your hair or just put it up so that the back of your neck can be tanned. The spray is safe on hair and can just be washed out after the process is complete. Remove your clothes and step into the booth. Raise your arms above your head so that you can tan under your arms as well. A tanning attendant will initiate the machine, and the booth will fill with a fine mist impregnated with a tanning dye and a tanning booster. It only lasts a few seconds, but when you come out, your skin has been gently colored with spray-on sunless tanning treatment.
You should remember a few things if you're going to use a booth like this for your tan. First, if you exfoliate your skin prior to your treatment, you'll have much better results. Do not exfoliate afterward for several hours, and avoid showering for a while as well. Your tanning booth attendant will tell you exactly how long, but it's usually a minimum of 5 hours. Either of these can give you a streaky tan.
If you have respiratory problems of any sort, or if you're pregnant, speak to your health care provider before getting a mist tan. Although the chemicals used are safe and nontoxic, they may irritate the air passages of those with current breathing difficulties.
With regular sessions at spray tanning booths, you can maintain your excellent tan; even if most of your ancestors were so pale they were transparent. And the melanin-inducing chemicals can give you a real tan over time.
